Controversial singer Pilato was this afternoon detained at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport on his return home from South Africa where he had spent four months in exile.
The 34-year-old satirist and human rights activist confirmed his detention on his Facebook page.
“I have been detained at Kenneth Kaunda airport… Upon arrival, however the spirit will not die… I will hand over all my gadgets to the friends of Pilato, they will be updating you on everything,” Pilato said.
Pilato, whose real name is Chama Fumba, fled Zambia in early January after receiving death threats following the release of his hit song Koswe Mumpoto (rat in the pot), which ruling Patriotic Front (PF) members interpreted as criticising President Edgar Lungu and his government.
on February 5, the Lusaka Magistrate Court issued a bench warrant for Pilato’s arrest after he failed to appear in court on a trumped up charge of disobeying lawful orders after protesting the purchase of 42 fire tenders for $42 million in September 2017.
